Why Seoul

Korea is an expensive country to reach from outside. Domestic interconnection rules make transit into Korean networks costly, so running inside Seoul instead of pushing packets in from Tokyo changes both the latency and the economics of serving Korean users.

How Seoul is connected

Both KINX and Equinix Seoul are in our peering set; between them they cover the carrier-neutral side of Korean interconnection. The trans-Pacific and intra-Asian cables land at Busan and Geoje on the south coast and are backhauled north, which means Seoul gets short domestic paths onto every major system without hosting a landing station itself.

What ICN1 is good at

  • 01Korean gaming and streaming backends
  • 02Latency-sensitive APAC endpoints
  • 03Domestic Korean SaaS delivery
Hosting under South Korea lawPIPA is among the stricter privacy regimes in Asia, with a dedicated regulator and penalties that are actually levied. That cuts both ways: strong protection for personal data, real obligations if you process it. Korea also filters some content at network level for domestic access.

FAQ

Questions about Seoul

Prices in Seoul are indexed at 120% of the base list, which reflects local transit and power cost. The annual cycle takes thirty percent off that, and ordering several servers on one invoice takes a further three to ten percent. The table above shows both cycles.

Median provisioning at ICN1 is under a minute from confirmed payment. Windows images take three to four minutes because of sysprep. Nothing in the flow waits for a human.

Yes. VPN and proxy endpoints are one of the most common workloads in every CrestVPS location, Seoul included, and nothing in the acceptable use policy restricts them. Tor middle relays and bridges are allowed everywhere; exit nodes are limited to Amsterdam, Reykjavik and Bucharest.
